Herbert Spiegel, “Spiegel Eye-Roll Test”, Dies at 95

Dr. Herbert Spiegel, a New York psychiatrist, died at the age of 95, on Dec. 15, 2009. Dr. Spiegel was Clinical Professor of Psychiatry (Emeritus) at Columbia University, College of Physicians & Surgeons, where he directed the postgraduate course in hypnosis from 1960 to 1982. He was a Special Lecturer in Psychiatry and held a private practice in New York City.

Dr. Spiegel was credited for developing a test for hypnotic susceptibility, now widely known as the Spiegel Eye-Roll Test.
